Joan Baez & the Indigo Girls

Over 50 years since she began her career the famed Club 47 in Boston, Joan Baez still remains a musical force of nature whose influence is incalculable.  Through her storied career, Baez has been involved in some of the largest historical issues in the world.  Whether Baez was marching with Martin Luther King Jr., or standing alongside Nelson Mandela when the world celebrated his 90th birthday in London’s Hyde Park, Joan Baez has been a monumental part of history.  In 2007, Baez was honored at the Grammy Awards with the highest award a singer can receive: the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Decades into their career, the Indigo Girls still amaze conventional pundits with their ability to grow and thrive no matter what the state of the music industry is at any given point. Emily Saliers and Amy Ray began performing together in high school, and transferred their honest, urgent performing style onto the stages of countless small clubs, then saw their public profile take off with the 1989 release of their self-titled breakthrough.  The duo went on to win Best Contemporary Folk Recording at the 1990 Grammys.

For decades Bobby McFerrin has broken all the rules. The 10-time Grammy winner has blurred the distinction between pop music and fine art, goofing around barefoot in the world’s finest concert halls, exploring uncharted vocal territory, inspiring a whole new generation of a cappella singers and the beatbox movement. His latest album, spirityouall, is a bluesy, feel-good recording, an unexpected move from the music-industry rebel who singlehandedly redefined the role of the human voice with his a cappella hit “Don’t Worry, Be Happy,” his collaborations with Yo-Yo Ma, Chick Corea and the Vienna Philharmonic, his improvising choir Voicestra, and his legendary solo vocal performances.
