Duke & Dutchess of Windsor Limo for Sale: Long Island Limousine News Story

A piece of limousine history will go up for auction in November when a 1941 custom Cadillac nicknamed the "Dutchess" will be sold by Sotheby's Auction House in New York City. Probably one of the most famous Cadillacs ever made, the automobile was used for 11 years by Britain's Duke and Dutchess of Windsor and may garner as much as $800,000. Thought to have been scrapped, it's whereabout have remained unknown since it was last seen in newsreels and photographs as far back as 1952.

The art deco style automobile boasts hand crafted doors and fenders, rare wood interior finishes and custom fabricated carpeting. The royal seal with the initials "W.E." are monogramed and prominently featured on the doors. A sales record of the original purchase indicates that the Duke of Windsor forked over $14,000 for the one-of-a-kind limo in 1941 which is equivalent to $223,000 today.

The Duke of Windsor, formerly King Edward VIII, abdicated the throne in 1936 after less than a year  and married Wallace Simpson, a divorced American. The scandal triggered a constitutional crisis in England and captures the imagination as one of the most enduring love stories of the 20th century.

Long Island Limousine by Broward Limousine features a 1952 James Young Rolls designed in the style of the "Dutchess" that is available for all events including: weddings, photo shoots and parades. Call us today at 800.834.4242
